I agree, there is no easy way.

I think you have to:

-- look at the sales numbers for the last 4 quarters
-- look at the current declines, quarter to quarter
-- establish what you think they will do for each of the next 4 quarters
-- calculate P/S based on the current price
-- decide whether you are willing to pay that

As to margins, the same process.

JDSU is a different sort of company than AMZN. Maybe you can presume they know how to make a profit if the sales and margin are there.

If the sales are there, in your view, but the margin is not, then there are not going to be profits.

If all this is too much of a pain in the *ss, pick another sector that is more predictable.
