Nigel,
expect a good amount of those $5bn to get back to the Pfizer's coffers immediately with NO RISK associated at all to it. From that stream they will have enough funds to go out "munching". I was only trying to point out that those decisions (own share buybacks vs. acquisitions) are falling in 2 pretty different domains. The mantra "we think it's best to invest in our own company's stock" is totally off the real issue. It'S tax-engineering and it yields an immediate payback effect. Yes I did capture a dose of your irony <G>.

Finally I am not yet in a position to make some "discovery" contribution to your biotech threads, because I'm still in learning mode on this industry and haven't yet digested enough to try biotech investing with my own funds. Due to this my postings are more likely to contain questions and some "overall" picture PRs and findings. To be frank, medical devices are way easier for me to get a grasp on -that'S where I have been in the past with GSSI and USS - both were snapped up by Tyco and I made some nice returns on each of them. But I hope this will change as I get older and still wiser to try some biotech investment myself

best wishes
