Well there you are. If you exist, and you firmly believe you are someone, but society does not acknowledge you are someone, at least not someone in the sense that you are protected by law, then you are no one. It's the old tree falling in a forest, thing. If a society, for example, decides that blondes are non-people, and can be killed for any reason, then blondes no longer have the protection of being "someone" in the eyes of the law- not matter how important they may be to themselves. No government can take away the objective (if that exists, and I don't know if it does) existence of a person. But we live in a subjective universe, our own subjective universe, which meshes with other subjective universes, and finally resides within the union of the subjective universes of our fellow citizens- that thing that we call society.
