>> Symbian Teams with Real to Deliver Streaming Media to Cell Phones

UK Cellular News
June 28, 2001

Symbian and RealNetworks have formed an alliance to enable new classes of mobile multimedia solutions for developers using the Symbian operating system, and has also announced the commercial availability of RealPlayer Mobile for Symbian OS. RealPlayer Mobile ships with the new Nokia 9210 Communicator, now available in Europe. "The impact of Symbian OS and RealPlayer Mobile goes well beyond simply delivering a great audio/video user experience - the combination provides the foundation for establishing business models of mobile media as a whole, including subscription services and secure music delivery," said Mark Bretl, vice president, RealNetworks, Inc. "This is the industry's first substantive step in enabling media services to mobile phones, and it offers consumers a dramatic new dimension in mobile communications."

RealPlayer Mobile supports the download and local playback of RealAudio and RealVideo on the Nokia 9210 Communicator. RealPlayer is the world's most popular media player, now with more than 200 million unique registered users worldwide. And, RealSystem iQ is the media delivery system providing a universal architecture for the global delivery of digital media over the Internet - from any platform, to any device, including next-generation mobile devices.

Interesting music, if telecom stocks ever reach new highs, I would like to install a LHPO in my back yard. May have to stock lots of refreshments, since may have many visitors. Unhappy neighbors, fire department, local police and others. Seems that one of the LHPO guys breaks up his post grad studies with other things like torching Christmas trees.

In a like vein, this person seems to hold the world record on toasting marshmallows when he is not doing Unix stuff.

Two years after the act, the local fire dept was not very happy with the fact, after seeing this web page. They now consider it "use of explosives", therefore I am not lighting any more grills.
This (licensed) cartoon, by Beattie, pretty much tells the situation
