OK, some some plants are opening up in the former GDR. So?That's got nothing to do with the attitudes of former GDR residents. They want nice paying jobs and cradle-to-grave services without much personal cost.

Sentimentality about a Communist past and sentimental trends in American movies are two different things. You responded as if sentimentality is just a process, but I am talking about the content of that sentimentality. Do you see any American films yearning for the return of slavery?

Regarding Kohl and Schroeder...They are differences without distinction. There is not much difference between the CDU and the SDP in their policies. Both accept heavy regulation, fat social benefits, heavy taxaiton and socialism as the underlying framework. If the SDP demanded that the government give every family a swimming pool, the CDU would answer, "OK, but they have to pay for their own pool supplies."

I acknowledge that Schroeder has stated his awareness about the growing inability to pay for this system, but its been all talk. Has there been any bill to lower the tax rates on people?
