This links may not be proof enough for politically inspired skeptics, but I'll assume you're an open minded person. From these sources you can do further searches on your own. Cato Institute has a position often trumpeted by Rush Limbaugh, ie "smoking doesn't kill kids."..

You also want proof that some sort of universal health care would be cheaper than what we have now....I don't know if this the proof you want but I find the concept interesting....

Bear in mind we have a sort of universal care now......everyone knows that if you don't have insurance you can walk into a clinic or ER and get care even if it's for a bad cold..... This is a very ineffecient and expensive system.
Would you change the laws that require hospitals to treat uninsured people?.....
