Over 200 Developers Participate in InfiniBand Trade Association's First Plugfest

Group Delivers World's Largest Heterogeneous InfiniBand Fabric

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 26, 2001--The InfiniBand Trade Association announced today the results of its first Plugfest, an event attended by over 200 InfiniBand developers.

The event signaled the transition from specification development focus, to the delivery of InfiniBand products to the marketplace and featured twenty member companies participating in three days of interoperability testing. The event concluded with the configuration of a forty-one node heterogeneous fabric connected via copper and 100 meter fiber InfiniBand links.

``A strong compliance and interoperability program is a cornerstone of the InfiniBand Trade Association's charter,'' said Bob Zak of Sun Microsystems, a member of the InfiniBand Trade Association's Steering Committee. ``To see so many member companies eagerly working together on compliance and interoperability of InfiniBand products is a testament to the industry momentum in supporting InfiniBand fabric development and the shared belief in the value of product compliance and interoperability.''

The event also featured comprehensive training on test specification development efforts that are underway in the association's compliance and interoperability working group. Test specifications form the foundation for compliance test development and are critical to future compliance testing of member InfiniBand products.

This announcement comes on the heels of the InfiniBand Trade Association's third Developer's Conference held June 19-22 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The event featured technical reviews of the specification by the architects, as well as discussion of InfiniBand Architecture development issues. Over thirty members hosted exhibits featuring InfiniBand product development in the event's showcase arena. In addition, a full-day of marketing panels were hosted by industry experts and featured panelists from every segment of the InfiniBand development community.

The InfiniBand Trade Association is comprised of eight special workgroups, each with its own charter and area of expertise. The workgroups include: Marketing, Technical, Applications, Compliance and Interoperability, ElectroMechanical, Link, Management, and Software.

About InfiniBand Trade Association

The Internet is creating an increased demand for server computer I/O subsystem performance, scalability, reliability and flexibility. A shift to a switched fabric-based I/O architecture will enable industry participants to meet this increased demand. The InfiniBand Trade Association developed a specification for a channel-based, switched fabric architecture that provides a scalable performance range of 500 Mbyte/s to 6 Gbyte/s, meeting the needs from entry level to high-end enterprise systems. InfiniBand Trade Association represents the industry's choice for developing I/O technologies that will keep pace with the demands of the Internet age.
