Actually, Moore laws is at the root of speeding PC's, the smaller the feature sizes, the faster the chips. One the reasons GaAs is like Charlie brown (No problem is so big you cannot run away from...,) they were supposed to be the "fatstest", but Moore law kept them having to go to higher and higher frequencies...
