<Not to be a spoil sport but, if you look at the sub forecast in latest QCOM slideware just posted, by 2005 end (4 years), CDMA (all flavors) will be 25% of the worldwide sub base, which is a big improvement over todays 12.1%, but quite a ways from 100%>

True Eric, but of more interest to QUALCOMM is the sales rate of handsets. CDMA device sales should far exceed GSM sales which by then. GSM spectrum will be largely full and handset sales will be mostly replacements. Still pretty good, but all the new technology, bells and whistles will be in the CDMA world. GSM will be a bit like analogue now = useful, cheap and cheerful, but on borrowed time.

Eric L: Note: From Gilder's weekly letter:<<MMDS. It used to be wireless cable and
offers 186 megahertz of spectrum (6MHz times 31 channels)........it
can reach a 30-mile radius. With smart antennas incorporated in notebooks,
the technology does not require point-to-point accuracy (you can walk
around the house or office without losing your link). Sprint and WorldCom
are betting big time on this technology. Soma is using a Qualcomm 3G
license to deliver the technology quickly to residences and home offices
and benefits from the R&D and components already tested and available.
Sprint and WorldCom are testing the Soma devices.>>

Do you or does anyone here keep track of Qualcomm's opportunity in MMDS?

Curious about the "Soma" devices, Sprint and WorldCom are testing.

Any clues?

Among other things, does anyone know what company makes "Soma" devices? (Don't find Soma as a public company.)

Best.
