Albert,

I did not consider dell rumor seriously until I heard about cpq/intel deal.

Me too. When I saw Barrett and Capellas on their news conference, I imagined Micky D. watching and feeling like a jilted lover (he probably literally was). Hey, if Barrett can fool around, so can Dell. And AMD is looking like a pretty attractive wall flower.

Pravin.

<< do not recall but jury is still out on dell. I did not consider dell rumor seriously until I heard about cpq/intel deal. >>

For some reason I thought it was Eric Ross that gave the report, but then I thought it was the same firm, but my memory is probably slipping somewhere.

Why should the compaq/intel deal push dell to use AMD? It's not like Intel wasn't supplying Compaq with chips previously.

I think the only thing that will push Dell to take AMD is market share. As someone else pointed out, Dell has certain market share goals, and they become much more difficult to meet as AMD gains share and Dell doesn't offer AMD. Imagine for example, if AMD does reach their 30% goal over the next 2 years or so. It would be very difficult for Dell to meet their goals while ignoring that 30% of the market.
