Forer Personality Test Explained
Here's how the Forer Personality Test really works:
You read the instructions

You filled out the five questions

The answers were simply ignored (we're sorry for that!)

You were given a "one-size-fits-all" personality description

I guess you rated the description which came out fairly high on the five-point scale, didn't you? The average at this moment is 4.15 out of 5!

What does this mean?
The Forer Personality Test is not an attack on Personality Tests. In fact, there are personality tests which are truly validated. That means, it can be shown that the descriptions these tests provide are accurate.

The FPT can be seen as an attack on horoscopes, astrology, cartomancy and other pseudoscientific nonsense.

This test clearly shows that it is fairly easy to "tell your personality" without actually knowing anything about you. The underlying phenomenon is what one calls "subjective validation":

The fact that people tend to accept vague and general descriptions about themselves without realizing that the description can fit just about anyone.

Given my evident penchant for intellectual pursuits,
I tried the test several times varying the answers.

LOL.

The diagnosis is either Multiple Personality Syndrome
or incurable skeptic:-)
