instead of giving away free shipping with single orders, amzn now ships what the customer wants for free and has to ship a 2nd book while getting 2 cents in revenue!

amzn loses more than just giving away free shipping. talk about a bunch of morons who set up inefficiency after inefficiency! -ng-

There has always been marketing concepts that make sense. I wonder if their marketing people (do they have any or only tech people) ever heard of the second item having a minimum cost? That is done all the time at real retailers not necessarily with shipping. There are bonus sales such as buy one and receive another free but the first item has to cost more than the second item. There are hundreds of possibilities.

An example we have used is to give away "free wedding bands" with the purchase of an engagemnt ring. The concept makes sense in that most people getting engaged have a plan to get married. They sometimes fall through but that is not the issue here<G> The value of the free bands cannot exceed 50% of the price of the enagement ring. That is not a 50% off sale but once we take into account our mark-up, it is 25% off.

It would seem retailers would learn that kind of thing.
