I agree. On most benchmarks, P4 is a dog. Most of the ones it does well on (and Intel brags about) are heavily memory bandwidth dependent.

Put one channel of SDRAM on P4, and the processor is going to look pretty sickly compared to Athlon. This will make i850/w dual channel RDRAM the only benchmarkable P4 combo.
