100 million subscribers is quite exciting as an achievement

The CDG should find some Finnish ex-pat in your country who just signed up on the new NZ system, and anoint him (or her) as the official 100 millionth subscriber.

Here comes the biggest CDMA network! China is lining up to be the biggest CDMA market within 5 years. The original questions are largely answered with the switching on and going big-time commercial of the Unicom CDMA network.

There remain Globalstar, [still a mess and deteriorating with no apparent restructuring progress - what a colossal waste of an opportunity], NextWave and their $$multibillion settlement with the FCC, abandoned by the Senate which had to approve the agreement, Eudora, which is still looking for a big piece of the action in cyberspace [the future of Eudora is of course in cybermoney, the Q Message 16824919 ] and of course CDMA linked notebook computers, pdQs and the like, which are only just getting going in a serious way.

Most people still think 3G is a failure even before it's born. They are in for a surprise.

At last, CDMA bigtime in China - not even a week to go!

Happy 2002, the palindrome year [the only other one I'll experience was the recession year of 1991].

Overall, people tend to think of 2001 as a bad year, what with the stock market crunch continuing, the first recession of the 21st century and the destruction of the World Trade Center twin towers in New York and about 3000 people. But really, in a broader point of view, it's been another great year.

Thousands of great new things have been introduced after years of work and creativity in developing them. Life is getting better and easier which makes the next developments quicker with more people working on them.

Let's see, Windows XP, 1xRTT, gene therapy, cloning, more people on earth, China's economy booming, digital cameras, cyberspace growth and improvement, fibre all around the world, OFDM test, and thousands of other developments. Ebay, PayPal, Superconducting filters, Capstone turbines, human genome nailed down and DNA developments on the rampage, Wingcast getting ready, Boeing 777s looking good, Rituxan helping thousands who would otherwise debilitate and die, Leap Wireless bringing cheap mobile phone service to cities across the USA, DVDs on the move, Playstation, mobile banking improving, and a lot more besides.

Things sure did go well in 2001.

2002 should be even better,

Mqurice
