I think you mean QUALCOMM.

Of course I do!

Mickey Mouse attempt to ring-fence Europe and create a cartel standard [VW0] and hijack the intellectual property, everyone would be far more advanced and cdma2000 could be rolling out now across Europe.

Of course you would need some CDMA 2000 900/1800 Mhz Infrastructure, and some CDMA 2000 900/1800 Mhz UT's.. Which appear to be in short supply, to non-existent for an overlay.. or someCDMA 2000 3G CDMA Greenfield Infrastructure and UT's.. which also seem to be in short supply, to non-existent!! Exactly what is Qualcomm trying to "persuade" the European Operators with?? Ahhh!! If only Qualcomm had a Infrastructure and UT business.. They could whip up that stuff in no time..

It seems as though there is not going to be any extended lifetime for GSM as a result of the VW40 game [because cdma2000 hasn't been ready until now anyway].

First of all.. I want to apologize for what I am about to say! I realize this is a "Moderated Thread" and want to follow the rules as outlined.. So please don't take this as Bashing!! But, IMO..

GSM has easily won the Voice War!! "Hands down". When you have CDMA Operators like Verizon threatening to modify their infrastructure in order to join the GSM Voice Roaming Club.. Then you need to understand the magnitude of those threats!! They want access to the ability to Roam among Global GSM Operators and appear to be willing to modify their network topology in order to achieve such goals.. IF, the GSM Mafia will not allow CDMAOne Operators in the Roaming Club..

Verizon states:

"`A handset that gives customers the capability for roaming worldwide may be the short-term solution, the very short-term. The long-term solution is to give our customers the capability in the network (to allow roaming),'' he said."

In addition.. The North American TDMA Operators moveing to GSM/WCDMA will provide Latin American operators an incentive for them to migrate to GSM/WCDMA also.. Although Lucent should be applauded for the job the did in earlier Latin American TDMA/CDMA migrations.. Two years ago.. Everyone one the QCOM side.. (including myself) ranted on about how "GSM... We will bury you!!" with your poor spectral efficiency's, and lousy voice quality!

Did it happen. No!

Now that war appears to have been sidelined, and the objectives now move to Data..

VW40 is increasingly looking like a failure,

If memory serves me.. CDMAOne looked like a failure in the beginning.. It need a few tweeks here and there, which postponed it's commercial availability, and allowed GSM to move forward at light speed.. It will be interesting to see if the same holds true for WCDMA/CDMA2000.. Of course, some comments out Korea, and Mexico have not been very flattering as of late.. But, with everything new comes a few tweeks needed..

The whole VW40 game has been a costly charade with no benefit to the GSM Guild.

I think you are fooling yourself Maurice..I would not want to try and calculate the number of CDMAOne Networks that were postponed due to the promise of WCDMA. The cost of business to Qualcomm over the last 3 years could be measured in the Billions. In the mean time.. The GSM builds and expansions have proceeded at light speed.. How many GPRS Infrastructure contracts are there out there? WCDMA contracts? And compare that to the number of CDMAOne contracts? Before WCDMA.. Latin America TDMA Operators were all "slam dunk" CDMAOne migrations.. Lucent was hand-holding them with VF deals and the like. Look at the number of CDMA buildouts in Latin America through 1999 (Mexico, Nicaragua, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Brasil, etc).. And compare that to the buildouts since that point in time.
