Try this CMOS fix first

Go into your CMOS by pressing F1 for Setup (may be DEL) and look for a setting called PCI/PNP Configuration.
Go into that Heading and look for "Enable reset data."
This is the "NO work" attempt.

Here is a link from someone with a similar problem.

In your case I don't think it will work, you can't sys a drive not recognized by the BIOS.

This type of problem can be caused by the addition of new hardware, especially drives. If the "Enable Reset" doesn't work, try disconnecting your HDD ribbon cable, reboot to see if you pass the Verifiying DMI data pool message. If you do, shut down and rehook the drive cable. If it doesn't you may be required to remove the battery from your computer and leave it out for awhile.

In the worst case scenario, the Verifying message is correct and you have lost your HDD, this means you have no boot device so it isn't really hung, it is waiting.

The inevitable question is "What did you do ?" and the perennial answer is "I didn't do anything."
