Wow Jim,

That sound like the final exam in a philosophy course I almost once took. Double points for finding a flaw in original premise????<g>

Happy Birthday by the way. I just remembered your birthday is coming up.

It is the Canada day weekend here, so good luck on Monday. The markets are closed here in Canada, so our hands are tied till Tuesday.

Here is a stab at it:

A) Intelligence: The realization that one (can refer to man or beast) can <b<purposefully manipulation ones environment or state. The degree of realization defines the level of intelligence.

Though the degree of intelligence is not necessary an indication of ones actions.

ie ... Drinking as many beers as one can take before one passes out is not necessary highly intelligent, but engineering student, who in some circle anyway are considered intelligent, try to do that every year. At least they did when I was a student. <g>

B) Self: See above. Realization is the issue here.

c) Can't have self or intelligence without the other.

A definition of intelligence? LOL!! I think it's best summarized by Rene Descartes, who stated it best:

I think, therefore I am!

Or as A.I.'s (the Speilberg/Kubrick film) Gigolo Joe stated, "I am. I was."

Any entity who can do this, and dream as well, is intelligent. ;-)

John~
