But to be fair, how have the stocks you have NOT written calls on...performed over the past year?

They have performed rather poorly, as one would expect. However, given that my primary leaning is to LTB&H, I don't worry too much about a year. I have had a 600% gain and a 50% loss in the entire portfolio in different years, a 3000% gain on one individual stock, and lots of results in between. In the end, my average return is way, way, way above 20% a year in terms of overall appreciation. The call stuff is extra.
My general goal has been to acquire enough assets to retire. My feeling has been that it will take around 500k each for the two of us, (not including a summer and winter residence with no mortgages), given that I have funded a pension that can kick in at a reduced level at 52 1/2, 1 1/2 years from now.
If the options continue anywhere near the last year, I'm kind of fond of Sydney,Australia for a winter home. If not, the Keys will do nicely. If the sh*t hits the fan, Costa Rica is good too. Always like to have contingency plans. However, I've been around long enough to know that man proposes and God disposes, so we shall see.

Regards
