Because it's not as simple as following what the "guru" says to buy or sell. There are other factors such as "kickbacks" that may come into play. Buy/sell is the person's responsibility IMO. Kickbacks on what that person bought/sold is another matter.

<font color=blue> Credibility

When considering this, look to motive and also the benefits accruing from activities here at SI. When someone establishes a thread, what is their motive, what does he/she or his company and associates stand to gain? Where chat sites and brokers are concerned, a great many of whom have operated here for years, I believe the answer is obvious. For pump-and-dump artists such as those who have been reprimanded by the SEC, and others, I feel this is obvious also.

Now what is my motive? This is the first thread I ever established at SI, and I have been a member since April, 1998. I established a site but I never established a thread to tout it here. Through this thread, m motives are, in no particular order:

1. to inform SI members and day traders of fraud
2. to give deserving plaintiffs the opportunity to know that something is being done on their behalf
3. to allow SI members the chance to speak freely on these issues

SI is important because most day traders have been here at one time or another. Many of you know many of the people who have been involved in illegal practices here and elsewhere. Putting an ad in the local paper is not going to allow plaintiffs to understand these issues and organize their thoughts and options as well as this medium can.

Pardon me. I am not sure what you mean by bone up. I actually thought I agree with you on this whole thing.

This is why I have been disappointed. If it is true that many here agree, then please stop fighting amongst yourselves. No one has to follow me into any particular legal action; you can seek your own legal advice and launch other actions, but attacking one another is counter-productive and discouraging indeed. If there is agreement then perhaps a modicum of trust could be built and expanded upon, though in light of hat has happened and I am quite realistic about how difficult this is going to be.

Nevertheless, I admire how Tim Luke rallied SI around his thoughts on these matters. That was heartening. Perhaps he is more diplomatic here than I am, and more in tune with the way SI members react to certain statements. Perhaps I am overly formal in my posting style- and those who know me well know I can be exceedingly casual and share a great many laughs with fellow professionals - but here and on this subject I deemed it better that I was succinct and somewhat formal. (Legal proceedings, after all, are generally very formal happenings.) I admit I am not as experienced as Tim in SI communication foibles. I also do not "know" as many of you and your histories here as Tim does. That may have been a part - but I know only a part - of the reason for troubling discussions here. But I do know that I have cause to question many statements - especially if they are attacking from the outset. I have seen enough to know that many things here are not at all what they would appear.

Now I hope at some point this discussion can come together and be productive for everyone. However, I truly wonder if the brokers, sites and their associates are ever going to permit that. I doubt it.
