Re: . IF Q2 is profitable, you'll need a microscope to notice.

I think a fair amount of Inventory, and WIP was written down to zero or near zero in Q1.

So in Q2, when those parts were dumped, the sales of those parts will show on the books as pure profit.

Re: Santa Claus is coming to town!

I think Santa Claus is going to be insisting on some very sharp pricing from his suppliers this fall!

What Intel needs is another Y2K to get businesses to replace high end desktop and server ahead of schedule - and they aren't going to get it.

Re: INTC ought to be able to make a nickel or two in the XP season (Q4), don't you think?

XP doesn't do much for most users that Win2K/Office2K doesn't already do. And some real horror stories are making the rounds about the license activation (and sudden, automatic un-activation of XP licenses).

It's entirely possible that XP will actually reduce sales - if you don't trust XP enough to order it yet, but you don't want to buy machines with the "old" Windows 2000, all you can do is wait for XP to have had more time in the field.

Dan
