We have benefitted from participation in standards-setting organs of the UN (the telecommunications standards organization comes to mind for one). Would our telecommumications and other industries lose competitive advantage if shoved outside of these?

Does a democrat chair the Committee on International Relations?

I am not in the least surprised that the US would want to withdraw from the UN!

Let's face it. For years the US has not got the gratitude and respect it feels it deserves.

One of the recent "insults" to the US was that it was voted out the Human Rights group by a number of rather insignificant member nations! Big joke, huh!

Of course another reason for its intended withdrawal is the fact that the Cold War is over.

By the way, NATO in which the US plays a big part has been called over the years No Action Talk Only.

LG, what do you see happening as a result of this? Trying to rebuild the "republic"?
