And nothing says it's the business of the federal government, either. Article X. The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

There are some exceptions of course, such as keeping an army, postal service, courts ect.

What constitutes a "cache?" Is it a militia nut that has 500 fully auto and semi auto ar-15s? There are about 15 of these kinds of people in the US regardless of Left wing media hype. Or is it a guy that has a couple .22s, a deer hunting rifle, a shotgun, the versatile .30-06, a varmit rifle, a plinking pistol, a defensive pistol, a target pistol, a carry pistol, a revolver or two and and an old black powder revolver? Add the rounds to fully support each of these weapons and you have Joe average weekend shooter. Why do you care if my weapons are secreted about my house? You bitch if I leave them in the open, now you are bitching that I keep them locked up? What do you people want.
