It looks like P4 is now competitive with Athlon. Anand's benchmarks show P4 winning 7 out of 13 (though the Athlon system did not use DDR, making the comparison somwhat skewed.)

John, no, that one didn't make it in here, I don't think.

This is great news:

The world's largest maker of chips used to power computers said that based on robust yields -- or the success it was having in manufacturing new chips with few defects -- the company plans to accelerate the timing of the release of its 2 gigahertz chip to sometime during the current third quarter.

Nothing better than a "robust yields" report. Of course, the other side will say "well, what were they before, bad?"

P4: #1 in GHz and performance now.
