Yessir. We unfortunately have little sense today of the dangers inherent in government, especially a government wherein power ever consolidates. The tragedy is, by the time citizens in the main discover for themselves why a consolidating government is inherently dangerous, the only recourse left them is typically found in a revolution accompanied by bloody war. I am a federalist at heart, in the ideological lineage of George Washington and James Madison. But I think the political trajectory caused by the Civil War is most destructive.
