NOTICE TEXT: NASA/GSFC intends to purchase a High-Precision Translation Stage
and Controller for X-ray Optical measurements from Newport Corporation in
Irvine, CA. Newport Corporation is the sole proprietor of this high-precision
translation stage and controller for x-ray optical measurements. The following
items are being purchased: 1.) Translation stage, model PM500-16LW.100 (16"
linear travel with 100 nanometer resolution). 2.) Controller, model PM500-C6 (6
axis controller, tuned and matched to item # 1). The controller must be uniquely
designed to meet the requirements of GSFC's extensive library of command and
control software developed in-house. Also, cabling for the interface between the
controller and stage must be interchangeable with PM 500 equipment. Since the
controller and translation stage must be a matched set, the stage must be a PM
500 product. Therefore, only Newport Corporation's PM500 series products in the
X-ray Calibration Facility meet the standards for this unique hardware and
software. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition
Procedures (SAP). The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item
using FAR Part 12. See Note 26. Interested organizations may submit their
capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the
identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on 7/19/01. Such
capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of
determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A
determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full
and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within
the discretion of the government. Oral communications are not acceptable. All
responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency.
An Ombudsman has been appointed. See NASA Specific Note "B". Any referenced
