Seems to me that which way a person thinks the news tilts often -- usually? -- says more about the observer than about the news.

There are, however, some statistical measures that are perhaps more accurate. The voting record of the people working for the news source -- people may say what they will, but their voting records, over time, are probably the most accurate indicator of their true beliefs.

Then there is the question of balance in their tags. Do they, for example, use the terms "right wing" and "left wing" about equally and with the same degree of pejorativeness? If they refer at times to a vast right wing conspiracy do they also refer at times to a vast left wing conspiracy? Language, as you as a poet know well, is revealing of much, often much more than a person intends to reveal.
