Fidelity won't allow one to sell puts online but one can do so if one calls and talks to someone directly. Is that an option with Scottrade? They may charge a higher commission so be sure to find out before you trade.

Someone just me gave the link for the board here, interesting reading the last 40 or so posts -- I saw your post asking about brokers and one other mentioning the high cost of commissions on options. I hope people don't mind my making my first post here on brokers, don't want it to seem like spam, but I have been using www.interactivebrokers.com since January of this year for options trades and have been very happy with their fills. It might be an especially nice alternative for some people here who are selling only a few calls or less in any one transaction because they charge only $1.95 per contract.
