Storage management software vendor Veritas reiterated last month that its second-quarter sales would be modestly higher than first-quarter levels -- about 1 percent -- and said it remained on track to deliver annual revenue growth of between 35 and 50 percent.

Gary Bloom, Veritas' chief executive, told CNBC on Monday that customers were again talking about tech investment, but that their behavior and intentions did not yet match.

``We see some unpredictable behavior in closing patterns,'' Bloom said.

Sales and customer service software maker Siebel Systems closed up $2.63, or nearly 6 percent, at $49.53 on Monday after Merrill Lynch analyst Craig Wood boosted his rating on the stock and said he believed that the company's second-quarter was on track.
