>> article doesn't touch on the real reason why there is slow adoption of IT in medical centers, hospitals, and doctors' offices

IT in hospitals. Kind of like a VB interface writing to an access file. Nurses and nurses aides enter how much you pee and what color it was. Ward Clerks surf the internet. Nurses Bid on Airline Tickets and play Video Games at 2 am.
The ICU nurses even lock the doors so they won't get in trouble when they surf. I guess it's better than sleeping because they're awake.

Dudes with no degree climb up in the ceiling tiles and lay the blue cable in places you wouldn't believe. (the asbestos comes down and helps the respiratory patients -when it's disturbed) OLD buildings. You got little 5 port hubs at each station, yeah so. You got rooms (OF BOXES) of 500 MHZ/64 RAM computers sitting in a room unopened. The Administrator bought about 200 too many of them. So they sit. Waiting to be auctioned. Probably on Ebay.

Well, That's about every thing you wanted to know about IT in the Hospital. Oh yeah, The desktop. They're using Win98 so to be slick, the administrator takes the IE icon off the desktop. Like you can't go to the start menu and find it. But most nurses can't. Don't even have a clue.

No need to log on to the network. Just hit cancel. And your on.

NOW if you wanna' trade stock from your datek account. It's a little more complicated. You need to bring your own PHONE cord from home. You need to have an outside ISP account and i wouldn't go directly to datek from the hospital network. I would probably log off the network completely. (UNPLUG THE PORT) Plug in the phone line. (configure the dialer) And You'r In. Oh yeah. Don't forget to erase all temporary files when your done. Ain't Microsoft Great. (your screwed if the computer doesn't have a modem.) You could bring that from home.

Correct, Dawson. There is no money in hospitals for IT and
no firm grasp of what is needed.

If there was money to put a well integrated FO system with software
I think it would help a lot.
But training people for this system is too much to ask.
We now hire simply warm bodies ( they are the only ones available
at the salaries we offer )
