>> Qualcomm is granted rights under Nokia's CDMA-related and other patents to market and sell CDMA components <<

Oh boy, now Qualcomm has Nokia permission to sell CDMA chip sets!

>> including multi-mode integrated circuits. <<

This was probably the important clause. Qualcomm can go forward with multi-mode chips.

>> Nokia has also been granted a royalty-bearing license under Qualcomm's patents to make and sell infrastructure equipment for all CDMA wireless systems <<

The long awaited infrastructure license. No doubt there is a way to put a negative spin for Qualcomm on this.

Under the terms of the multi-million dollar expansion, Nokia has also been granted a
royalty-bearing license under Qualcomm's patents to make and sell infrastructure equipment
for all CDMA wireless systems while Qualcomm is granted rights under Nokia's
CDMA-related and other patents to market and sell CDMA components, including
multi-mode integrated circuits.

As part of the agreement, Nokia will continue to pay royalties to Qualcomm for subscriber
equipment at the same rates established by the terms of the original cross-license agreement
in 1992, irrespective of the CDMA standard implemented.

Looks like Nokia will continue to have a sweet heart deal....

The paragraph above mentions multi-mode components....doesnt this have to mean GSM?

Re: Nokia

Boy, could Q be a more gracious victor?

It's all there: Infrastructure, all 3G flavors, multi-mode chips! It's over and the financial press may not even notice!

I saw headline and could not get to message boards to catch our collective spins until now.

What made me sit-up

1) since agreement for all flavors and both subscriber and infrastructure, it seems like we are done negotiating a license with Nokia unless they still need an R and D license

2) multi-million dollar expansion---just what is that? Not the multi-million dollar fee that has been extracted (rightly so, of course) from others?

3) wondered if "and other patents" included GSM and its migration and according to SSB posted here it seems to be so

4) agree that timing of deal predicated on roll-out of WCDMA base stations and fear of subsequent litigation

5) is Nokia any more likely to use Q ASICS or to farm them out to Solectron?

6) Nokia no more likely to embrace anything other than WCDMA IMO

7) do we see another catapult as in post Errorickson?

8) What are IDCC wackos going to do with themselves?
