I started to cool on Hays after he started preaching his grand theme of "deflation and democracy." Utter nonsense IMHO. Deflation and democracy are direct opposites. When deflation takes hold in foreign lands democracy is usually on the way out. His implicit assumption that the US will be able to run huge trade deficits year after year with the dollar remaining strong strikes me as the height of arrogance, complacency, and chauvinism. His emphasis on TRIN as the "perfect" indicator also is misplaced as Zeev has pointed out.
