Just out of curiosity, what was your viewpoint on the Electoral College when it appeared as if Dubya was going to win the popular vote, and Gore was going to win the Electoral College? An amazing number of conservatives "realized the wisdom of our founders" when the converse occurred after railing about the "antiquated" Electoral College...

And after screaming states' right throughout his entire campaign who was the first to run to the US Supreme Ct when he was afraid he might lose FL? Its amazing how Bushites manage to ignore the blaring inconsistencies in their fearless leader's behavior.

I had always thought the Electoral College was a relic, one which had outlived its usefulness. I had been under the mistaken impression that it had been created as a means of counting votes before it was possible to easily move this information about in a timely manner. When this event occurred in FL I came to understand the true rationale behind it, and once again the founding fathers were proven right. I don't know that it is perfect, but it makes sense to me now where it didn't before.
