To make a long story short, some analysts interpreted each carrier decision to adopt wcdma over cdma2000 as a loss for qcom. Dr. Jacobs has long and vigorously asserted that wcdma is covered by qcom's patents and that any form of cdma is a win for qcom. The veracity of that statement is now substantiated by the expanded Nokia agreement.
