Excessive water intake can result in cerebral edema and death."

How much water we talking about??? Never heard of the edema problem, but in a book I just finished entitled "Ghost Soldiers", by Hampton Sides, about the Bataan death march, the Japanese tortured some prisoners by placing a water hose into their mouths, forcing water into their stomachs, and then jumping on their abdomens to cause great pain .....some died.
