Kent,

I wouldn't use the term force fed but yes I bet they had some serious influence. More specifically, my guess (and that's all it is) is that the megalomaniac from Vodaphone had a lot to do with it. Betcha he read the "riot act" to Nokia with regard to getting his w-cdma network built-out ASAP. If Nokia couldn't do it NOW, then he probably threatened to go with a cdma2000 build-out. Just to plant a seed of doubt into the QCOM camp, he had Verizon float the prospect of eventually going to a w-cdma migration path at some future time. Not real confident about the Verizon part because in making their plea for cooperation between the various camps, they gave the impression that they were very concerned that Vodaphone might actually be serious about converting their current and future networks to w-cdma. Pretty brilliant really.....don't think Sir Christopher Gent has much in the way of patience <ggg>

Now all Nokia has to do is deliver (no small feat) or they probably wont be in the infrastructure business for very long <LOL>

Also, gotta believe GPRS is turning out to be a huge disappointment and will not be the "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" that the gsm camp had hoped it might be.
