The ability to assess human nature--and to see behind the form--involves a merging of experience, knowledge, and art (at least in my OH SO VERY UMBLE OPINION). The reason we are touched (by people such as Shakespeare), is simply that he, and others like him, can describe the taste of our blood. No big deal<gg>

Trollope was a mature human being long before he became a mature writer. I suppose that is par for the course. You are right, though--sometimes one wonders WHERE and HOW an author got his/her insight. But, of course, it always comes from their personal experiences, and their internalizing of the world. There is no place else.

Shakespeare made a lot of mistakes...so he is in good company...
