ADIC® Launches Industry's Broadest Range of Super DLTtapeâ„¢ Libraries
Leading DLT Supplier Ships Backward Compatible Super DLT Models

July 18, 2001-Redmond WA. Advanced Digital Information Corporation (NASDAQ: ADIC) today announced that it has begun shipping the industry's broadest range of Super DLTtape libraries into its distribution channels. As the industry's largest volume supplier of automated DLTtape products, ADIC is integrating next-generation Super DLTtape technology into its Scalar® 100, Scalar 1000 and Scalar 10K automated tape libraries. The new technology nearly triples the capacity and doubles the data transfer rates of earlier generation products, an advance needed to help meet heavy end-user demand for increased storage capacity and performance. The libraries also offer backward read-compatibility with existing DLT products, allowing users to integrate the new technology easily into their current data storage environments.
"ADIC is focused on delivering the industry's most intelligent and highest-performance data storage solutions with the best technologies available," said Bill Britts, ADIC executive vice president of sales and marketing. "Adding Super DLTtape models into our product line fits perfectly with that strategy. We've become the market leader in DLT automation because we offer the industry's broadest product line and best channel mix. Now we're moving aggressively to deliver the technology's next-generation, establishing new benchmarks in density and scalability along the way. Super DLTtape represents a major technical step forward which we are eager to bring to our channel partners and end-user customers."

"ADIC maintains a strong commitment to delivering the highest quality, next-generation storage solutions for their customers" said Andy Grolnick, vice president, marketing, Quantum DLTtape Group. "Super DLTtape technology is important to helping meet customer's data protection needs by offering significant performance advances and backward compatibility. The reliability of the Super DLTtape platform combined with ADIC's automation strength provides a powerful answer to today's demanding enterprise requirements."

All three of the ADIC Scalar Super DLT library platforms feature innovative scalability and built-in support for storage network environments.

The Scalar 100 is the industry's most dense mid-range DLT rack-mountable library, providing up to 6 Super DLTtape drives and from 15 to 60 cartridges in only 14 standard rack units (24.5 inches). It allows users to save time and money by adding their own capacity and performance upgrades in minutes without reconfiguring their rack systems.

The Scalar 1000 scales from 118 to 788 cartridge positions-over 170 TB capacity with normal 2:1 compression-and from 1 to 48 SuperDLT drives. It was the first data center-class library to offer high-performance, barrier-free system growth.

ADIC's newest library, the Scalar 10K, is the industry's first SAN-enabled enterprise library platform. It offers the industry's first capacity-on-demand scalability and features a full suite of integrated storage network management and connectivity capabilities. The Scalar 10K libraries support from 700 to 8,014 SuperDLT tapes and up to 324 drives.

Quantum Corporation's (NYSE: DSS) new Super DLTtape technology provides 110 GB (native) capacity per cartridge and 39.6 GB/hour (native) throughput per drive, nearly tripling the data storage capacity and doubling the throughput of previous generation DLTtape technology. Super DLTtape technology integrates seamlessly into existing systems, offering backward-read compatibility with multiple generations of DLTtape 4000, 7000, and 8000 series drives and millions of DLTtape IV data cartridges.

The Scalar 100 with support for Super DLTtape technology is available now, with suggested list pricing starting at under $22,000. The Scalar 1000 and Scalar 10K will be available in production quantities in August. All three products are also available with other drive technologies. More information on all of the ADIC products is available online at adic.com.

Down 5% today. Holding up pretty well considering the slam on EMC and the hammer put to VRTS.
