Jerome, I won't attempt a comparison between AMAT and
group "backlog" because the "group backlog" is not correct.
It ignores order cancellations [I have no way to get
those]. The AMAT backlog is more reliable because it comes from the quarterly report of Applied.

I show "group backlog" for amusement only, or as an "illustration".

[World DRAM Price] Spot Prices for DRAMs Drop Below US$3
July 4, 2001 (TOKYO) -- The price drop is continuing for volume users and spot prices of 128Mb DRAMs (PC133, 16M x 8).

The spot prices dropped to the level of US$3 in the first quarter and they fell below that mark in the second quarter.

The situation is getting very difficult for DRAM microchip manufacturers.

According to a worldwide DRAM price survey conducted by ICIS-LOR, based in London, Houston, and Singapore, the 30-day rolling average prices of 128Mb DRAMs (for May 17 through June 15) for large-volume users were US$3.86 in North America, US$3.35 in Europe, and US$3.68 in Asia.

Compared with the previous week (30-day rolling average prices through June 8), the prices fell 6.94 percent in North America, 7.12 percent in Europe, and 2.99 percent in Asia.

As for the memory-module prices, the spot price of 128MB DIMMs (PC133) fell 8.91 percent to US$21.67 in North America, 5.11 percent in Europe to US$26.61, and 5.30 percent to US$22.14 in Asia.
