They returned to Galilee greatly dispirited, suffering acute anxiety and bewilderment, asking themselves why a man of such quality and power could have been allowed by God to come to such a tragic end. Those are the very conditions in which the unconscious depths of the human psyche can prove to be so creative. The psyche, drawing upon the previous experience and basic symbols already embedded there, creates a vision which resolves the issue. It seems an extremely reasonable thought process going on here, given that we know more about the make up of our minds and subcouncious , and need to sublimate, and interpret "visions " from more of the need to believe ...rather than actual events. They turn back to the former uncouncious and deeply embedded images already implanted by their Jewish faith..of other "ascensions" and "glories" , described and living deep in their mindsets. Here, then, were Jewish disciples whose minds, like that of Elijah before them in his time of crisis, would turn back to Sinai, the source of their faith. In the vision created by the unconscious (possibly of Peter), he and his two closest companions James and John were led back by the memory of their Master to climb that same high mountain. On the wings of angels ...and in blinding shafts of lights...etc Of course to greg , everything was magical then...and able to be explained by the incision of the divine at every turn . For him every word is true , even of events that were never witnessed , and most inserted decades , if not centuries later. And in complete denial that these ideas of divine order and purpose morality , ethics , logos , & " A single Creator " .. had already been highly developed and taught centuries before . I would not ever dare to deny greg his visions , but i will defend thru my life , these evangelists assuming it is their "divine right" to meddle with and condemn the beliefs of the Hindu , Buddhist , or the Jain, etc ....with their "chosen-people-of-God" routine. The same goes for Islam ... Christianity & Judaism's little baby brother. In essence , none of them have even a shred of originality. The Empire that was 3rd Century rome , were filled with intolerant "Christians " like him . Christians were some of the most intolerant citizens of the Empire...in some ways ---->nothing has changed.
