CME Shuts Globex-2: Affects E-Mini S&Ps, Nasdaq Contracts

CHICAGO (Dow Jones)--Network problems have shut down the Chicago Mercantile Exchange's electronic trading system, Globex, the exchange said on Thursday.

Globex was taken off-line at 12:20 p.m. CDT, as the exchange looks into repairing the problem. So far no timeline has been given for when it will reopen.

This impacts all electronically traded contracts, including E-mini Standard & Poor's 500 and Nasdaq 100 stock index futures contracts.

Sometimes the exchange will move E-mini trade to the trading pits if Globex is off line for an extending amount of time. However, Bill Burks, spokesman for the CME, said that is a separate decision and so far that hasn't been made.
