Wonderful.

If a right-handed Brit drives a standard shift model with gear shifter on floor, he gets to shift with his left hand. Has to be at least as difficult for a right handed person as picking up peas with a knife. Can't be right.

If he is an inattentive driver like me, a right handed BritBloke puts his arm out on the right side while he attempts to steer using his non-dominant extremity. Can't be right, either.

OT: Whipping on the right side at blocking peasants, which
obviously was natural.
(popular theories often miss this one, your text didn't)

I once read an academic article trying to track right-left
handed traffic through history, some more detail, if I remember it right

- meeting traffic was not the reason, but aristocrates
on horse, carriage trying to pass by "commoners" which were
slower, walking (keeping a horse alive demanded much more
investments, more inefficient than an ox)

- the aristocrat chose the left side to able to whip the one
they tried to pass, get them more to the right or off
the road. (similar to why a walking stick was the sign of
the right to use it, cmp right to bear guns)

- as a result the left side of the road became, was reserved
for the aristocrates with the right to whip.

- as roads were usually narrow, muddy at times, the meeting
traffic problem was solved by either one driving off the
road.

- different rules applied for towns, two lane roads,
rural roads, etc..

Anyway, the french revolution ended the priviledge of the
left side of the road, also as a result of larger
mobile armies, trade than ever before, traffic rules had
to be more efficient and less violent.

Also where the upper and lower classes would sit in
parliement, the right and left

Btw, one point of confusion is that now all traffic move
with mostly the same speed on otherwise empty roads, that
was not the case earlier, walking was the general way to
get somewhere carrying things, and slow ox wagons.

Anyway, it is not just a pleasure to be the tax evasion
center of ones neighbours, talk Laissez fair and spread
mad cow, foot in the mouth decease as a result of lacking
funds and free market forces (full gvmt payment for
culling,etc)
UK has to change a lot of "practices", converge, to
join EMU, but they are now well on theri way.
The present media war on satellites, digital TV does
not improve relations.

And finally, europe is much in debt to russia, for
attempts at invation from Napoleon to later days.
And luckily the punishment policy did not continue
from WW1 to after WW2, much thanks to US
