Swing voters and independents decide almost every election.
McCain represents them more than anyone in DC now. Another who is disgusted with Bush is Jesse Ventura though he doesn't seem to want to run anymore. By now Ross Perot is just senile so he's out of it. That leaves McCain as the champion of the middle. And the GOP is forcing him out. He may not run for president again but he will never campaign for Bush and give him the election again either. Bush obviously lied to McCain to get him to campaign for him in New Hampshire. McCain felt back-stabbed and is pissed off. And he has quite a few senator and congressmen followers. They also hold the margin in the house and senate. They can and will cripple Bush he continues being such an intolerant money hog wedded to soft money and right-wing special interests. What's worse is Bush/Cheney are so damn arrogant and obvious about it. Maybe the blame lies with their handlers but whatever. Who wants a president who needs to be "handled" all the time and doesn't know what he stands for? Wishy-washy, read my lips, wimpish politically. Watch Bush try to steer toward the middle. It won't work anymore.
