Joey
that news made your, did not it? My understanding is that the total unit sales declined from q1 to q2 so if intel gained any market share then it is from it's own future.

ps as far as mercury research, I did not see any stats from them and how they were measured that is if it is unit or $$$, for quarter or for months etc

Uh, Joey, how much "share" do you think Intel could have gained from Transmeta? In round percent, about the maximum possible would be 0.

How could Intel have gained market share
1. AMD unit sales are up
2. From CBS Marketwatch marketwatch.com

AMD's revenue, which will be about 9 percent below expectations, may have been affected in part by overall weakness in the personal-computer-chip market. The U.S. PC market will see a decline in the number of computers shipped for the first time ever this year, according to data gathered last month from International Data Corp.

I don't think Transmeta is a reasonable explanation for Mercury Research's opposite conclusion. Rather, I think the poor AMD retail presence in April and May was the result of chip sales in March and April. June and July data on computer sales are not compiled yet and the chips for these computers have already been sold. Mercury Research may also ignore notebook sales, where AMD went from a baseline near zero. Finally, all this retail computer sales data is US-centered.
