AMD publishes their CPU unit shipments.

Intel then KNOWS AMD's CPU shipments.

Intel KNOWS THEIR OWN CPU unit shipments - but they don't tell anybody (at least not directly).

Now, since Intel and AMD make up 99% of the x86 CPU market - and Intel knows AMD's numbers and their OWN numbers, I'd say Intel knows the EXACT SIZE of the market - within 1%.
