Ish, you may not like Jackson's methods, but he's quite different from someone like Jesse Helms. He appeals to white guilt, not white hate to raise money. He's not appealing to race hatred among blacks for whites to raise money for his programs. That wouldn't make sense. His programs are directed toward enhancing self-esteem, personal and community development.

Helms, on the other hand, is no Ward Connerly or JC Watts or Clarence Thomas on the issues of affirmative action or preferences of any kind. Conservative African-Americans can at least take pride in advocating true egalitarianism. But having a good memory for the earliest parts of Helms' public career, I can tell you his skillful use of code words, intonation, inferences has at crucial times in his numerous campaigns been directed at the most base racial fear and Old South attitudes of whites toward blacks. He has learned to talk a good game, but when the going gets tough he shows his true stripes.
