Our yellow Lab, Lami, checked out last night. She was 13 and Winston's best pal for a decade. She took off down the stairs and we found her about 45 min later 2/3 the way down in shock/heat stroke. Carried her up 190 stairs (wt 80= LBS.)..2 days of fluids, meds, etc yielded no results and a massive VET bill.

She was a sweet girl..not like Winston in her determination, but very protective of the kids and her house. So this ends my stretch with all my pre-kid animals...lovable creatures that taught me about unconditional love and prepared me for parenthood (if that's possible).

Never jealous when the kids kept showing up and the family kept expanding, suddenly outnumbered and surrounded by grabbing, squealing humans...they all took it in stride and seemed to relish the constant commotion

Farewell LAMI... we certainly took you for granted, but we always loved you deeply
