Reagan got Clinton re-elected over Dole? Don't follow you? And what did Reagan have to did with the internet? The first major politician to talk about the "information superhighway" was Gore. The real inventors of the net from the 60's give Gore full credit as the net's #1 and original champion in the Senate before anyone even imagined such a thing. Gore got a bad rap on that "I invented the internet" slam. In fact he never said that, he said "When was I was in the Senate I took the initative to help create the internet". A little boastful but absolutely true. The GOP couldn't stand the the fact Gore had such a feather in his cap so poured a lot of effort into twisting his words and making it look like a lie. In fact is was truth. Absolutely, positively. Gore failed as a politician by not dfending himself well enough from this kind of disinformation dirty politics. He should have hired Mary Matalin's hubbie (what's his name?) to fight fire with fire. Republicans are better at dirty politics and disinformation, no doubt about it. Lee Atwater took it to a new level and the dems are still behind, though they know a few tricks too. They're no dummies. And now Bush has given them all the ammunition they're going to need. Without having to go into his personal life or lie and twist words to do it. They can run against Bush on his record which is public evidence. And they can run on the economy and the energy ripoff.
