That's the really frustrating part - the nurturing of a few short years can rarely overcome a lifetime of neglect and abuse ( but when it does, it is really a glorious thing!). And then the pervasive idea of " I want my own dolly to play with " - which I guess really comes into play with the low IQ - and I know sounds simplistic - but having seen waaaay too many kids with kids, is true. " I want my own dolly and I'm not even going to think of where it's going to get it's food or any other needs". I used to see a lot of these situations in clinics - and would see them as they got older ( note : I refuse to say , "grew up " or matured ) - the kids frequently ended up taking care of their parent - in addition to virtually raising themselves.
