Real ale should be between 8-11C; lager and stout about 5-7C; and extra-cold about 3-4C. Proper cask ale, like good red wine, matures during storage and the taste is to be savoured, so it should not be heavily chilled... the only beers served really cold are those where the taste is something to be avoided <vbg>
