Dennis, it's good to hear from you! Thanks for the SI postcard from Budapest! It sounds like a marvelous trip.

Talk about rickety subways. I'm having problems covering my shorts because of a rickety brokerage site, a rickety Internet connection , a rickety computer, a rickety chair, a rickety mind, and every other kind of problem that invariably arises when one's ready to take some profits. It's enough to drive one to Budapest!

And yeah, there's blood in the streets here today. Be thankful you're in Budapest. We're not doing a very good job taking care of the market for you in your absence. You left it in the hands of bears -- that much is clear.

California Wines Weathering Downturn

NEW YORK (Reuters) - One of California's top winemakers may have warned this
week of lower-than-expected profits, but times are far from bleak in California's
wine-growing valleys.

Economy Starting to Squeeze Makers of
Premium Wines
Beverages: Vintners see weaker sales of high-end
labels. Slack demand could lead to lower prices.

By MELINDA FULMER, Times Staff Writer

Premium wine may be an affordable luxury, but
it's not quite as recession-proof as California vintners
thought.
The weakening economy is beginning to cut into sales
of pricey wines at restaurants and hotels, analysts say,
and is driving consumers to uncork less-expensive
bottles of Chardonnay and Cabernet at home.
